The National Athletic Trainers Association has recognized physician Brian Cole, MD, for his athletic training work.

Here are six things to know:

 

1. Dr. Cole is a sports medicine physician at Chicago's Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush and serves as head team physician for the NBA's Chicago Bulls.

 

2. He is the only physician to be honored by NATA this year.

 

3. Dr. Cole is the third sports medicine leader from MOR to receive the award, following Bernard Bach, MD, who was recognized in 2009 and Charles Bush-Joseph, MD, who was recognized in 2015.

 

4. The annual honorary membership is awarded to individuals who have significantly contributed to the field of athletic training.

 

5. Dr. Cole will receive the award in June at the 68th Clinical Symposia & AT Expo in Houston.

 

6. Dr. Cole has practiced orthopedics for over 20 years and was named NBA team physician of the year in 2009. He is an orthopedics professor with an appointment in anatomy and cell biology and serves as section head of the cartilage research and restoration center at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.
