Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia has knee surgically repaired by Dr. Peter Asnis: 4 thoughts

Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia had a partial medial meniscectomy and chondroplasty performed by club orthopedist Peter Asnis, MD, MLB Trade Rumors reports.

Here's what you need to know.

 

1. Mr. Pedroia finished the season with damage in his left meniscus. He is expected to be fully healthy for the start of spring training 2017.

 

2. Dr. Asnis removed part of his left knee in hopes of limiting the discomfort going forward.

 

3. Dr. Asnis is the chief of sports medicine service at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He is the head team physician for the Boston Bruins, and the head team orthopedic surgeon for the Red Sox. He is a team physician for the New England Patriots.

 

4. Dr. Asnis earned his medical degree from the Weill Cornell College of Medicine. He completed a residency at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, and completed his fellowship at Massachusetts General.
