Mount Sinai Health System physicians to serve as medical providers at 2016 US Open: 5 takeaways

Mount Sinai Health Systems recently announced its orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians and radiologist would serve as the official care providers for athletes at this year's U.S. Open.

Here are five takeaways.

 

1. This is the fourth year the physicians have had the distinction of being the official care providers.

 

2. For the first time, radiologists will be able to use advanced image viewing workstations to help improve patient care and ensure a quicker diagnosis.

 

If players need to get medical imagining at The Mount Sinai Hospital or another nearby location, the physicians at the stadium will have access to the scans and will be able to examine them while at the event.

 

3. Physicians at the tournament will use ultrasound laptops with optimized imaging that allow for them to pinpoint, diagnose and treat sports-related injuries.

 

4. Director of Musculoskeletal Imaging at Mount Sinai West and Mount Sinai St. Luke's Carlos Benitez said the U.S. Open is one of the first to feature a full-time radiologist staff to provide care.

 

5. In addition to serving the U.S. Open, Mount Sinai physicians work with the U.S. Tennis Association to develop programs in injury prevention.
