AOSSM to induct Dr. K. Donald Shelbourne into Hall of Fame — 9 highlights

The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine's Hall of Fame will induct K. Donald Shelbourne, MD, at its annual meeting in Colorado Springs, Colo., on July 8.

Here are nine highlights:

 

1. Dr. Shelbourne is the medical director of the Shelbourne Knee Center at Community Westview Hospital in Indianapolis.

 

2. Dr. Shelbourne previously served as an orthopedic surgeon at Indianapolis-based Community Health Network.

 

3. He also was a former Indianapolis Colts' team physician.

 

4. Dr. Shelbourne has advanced ACL rehabilitation, among the first to perform the contralateral ACL reconstruction technique.

 

5. Dr. Shelbourne previously served as an associate clinical professor at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis.

 

6. He currently is on the American Journal of Sports Medicine's editorial board.

 

7. A member of the Herodicus Society, Dr. Shelbourne is also affiliated with American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Association, American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine, ACL Study Group and Arthroscopy Association of North America.

 

8. Dr. Shelbourne completed his sports medicine fellowship at University of Wisconsin in Madison.

 

9. Since 2001, the AOSSM Hall of Fame has inducted 66 individuals in the sports medicine community.
