UConn names new sports medicine director — 5 quick facts

Orthopedic Sports Medicine

University of Connecticut in Storrs named Deena Casiero, MD, the director of sports medicine, according to UConn Huskies.

Here are five quick facts:

 

1. Dr. Casiero previously served as the head team physician and medical director of Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.

 

2. Previously, Dr. Casiero was the tournament physician and director of player medical services for the U.S. Open Tennis Championship. She has served as the assistant team physician for the NHL's New York Islanders since 2010.

 

3. She earned her medical degree from New York Medical College in 2006.

 

4. After obtaining her medical degree, Dr. Casiero completed her residency at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx and her sports medicine fellowship at UConn Health.

 

5. She is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, American Medical Society of Sports Medicine and American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.
