The National Football League has announced plans to expand concussion prevention and assessment efforts next season, according to a report from The New York Times. Players are already required to undergo post-injury sideline concussion assessment tools as well as baseline testing to determine when they are able to return to play. Now, medical providers will use an app form designed to compare baseline test results after a potential injury to determine more quickly whether the player can return to play, according to the report.

Neurological consultants will be on the sidelines of each game to assist tem physicians in concussion diagnosis as well. Additional changes to the assessment tools may be made for next season as well.
