Here are 16 sports medicine physicians with recent appointments and honors. Jonathan Fow, MD, an orthopedic surgeon and operator of Coast Sports Institute in Arroyo Grande, Calif., was selected to provide sports medicine services to the U.S. Volleyball team at the Olympic Games.

Orthopedic surgeon Samuel Matz, MD, was appointed medical director of sports medicine at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, Md.

Peter Donaldson, MD, a sports medicine physician at Beaumont Health System in West Bloomfield, Mich., was selected to serve on the US Olympic Committee's medical staff for the games in London.

Hip surgeon and partner at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo., Marc J. Philippon, MD, performed a completed surgery in Parma, Italy, that was televised for surgeons in a nearby group.

David Davis, MD, of Access Sports Medicine & Orthopaedics in Exeter, N.H., won the Aircast Award for Basic Science at the 2012 American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine annual meeting.

The American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine inducted Stanley L. James, MD, of Slocum Center for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine in Eugene, Ore., and Champ L. Baker, Jr., MD, of The Hughston Clinic in Columbus, Ga., into the organization's Hall of Fame.

Christopher Harner, MD, of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and co-founder of UPMC's Center for Sports Medicine, was named president of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He was also recently appointed team physician for the Pittsburgh Penguins.

, of First State Orthopaedics, based in Newark, Del., received the 2012 Robert E. Lech Mr. Sports Medicine Award from the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine.

Hospital for Special Surgery's Robert Marx, MD, published a book on ACL injury called The ACL Solution.

The United States Basketball team named Paul Saenz, DO, team physician of the San Antonio Spurs, and Don Roberts, MD, team physician of the Portland Trailblazers, to the medical staff of the 2012 US Olympic Team.

The National Basketball Athletic Trainers Association has named Frederick M. Azar, MD, chief of staff at Campbell Clinic and head team physician for the Memphis Grizzlies, Physician of the Year.

The Major League Baseball and Major League Baseball Players Association have named Director of Sports Medicine and Head Team Physician at the University of Connecticut Jeffrey M. Anderson, MD, the new independent program administrator of the Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

Dierick Sparks, MD, of Sparks Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, was appointed to serve on the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine's council of delegates.

Founder and managing partner of The Steadman Clinic J. Richard Steadman, MD, was honored at the Arthroscopy Association of North America annual meeting with the Richard O'Connor Research Award.
