RTI Biologics Develops Reimbursement Hotline for Sports Medicine

Orthopedic Sports Medicine

RTI Biologics, an Alachua, Fla.-based processor of orthopedic, dental, hernia and other biologic implants, has entered into an agreement with Reimbursement Principles, a full service consulting group specializing in medical device reimbursements, which includes the development of a toll-free hotline designed to assist hospitals and physician customers with day-to-day reimbursement questions as well as a Web-based service for the submission of requests, according to an RTI news release.

The reimbursement hotline will be staffed by qualified reimbursement specialists who will provide guidance to questions such as:

  • How should this procedure be coded?
  • How do we preauthorize this procedure with private payers?
  • Does Medicare require preauthorization?
  • What do we do in the event of claims denial and/or low payment?
  • What sort of documentation should be submitted with our claim?

Although RTI representatives will not be able to instruct surgeons on exact coding procedures and reimbursement, they will provide product information in order to assist the hospital or surgeon in coding correctly and obtaining appropriate approvals needed for reimbursement, according to the release.

RTI also engaged RPI to develop a guide for coding procedures and services involving its sports medicine line of implants, which is now available to customers.
