Pelicans' DeMarcus Cousins to miss season after rupturing Achilles tendon, Dr. Misty Suri confirms — 4 insights

New Orleans Pelicans' Medical Director/Head Team Physician Misty Suri, MD, confirmed forward DeMarcus Cousins will miss the remainder of the year after rupturing his left Achilles tendon, the team reports.

Here's what you should know:

 

1. Dr. Suri examined and diagnosed Mr. Cousins with the rupture. He ordered a follow-up MRI to confirm the extent of the damage.

 

2. Mr. Cousins will have the tendon surgically repaired and will miss the remainder of the season.

 

3. Mr. Cousins suffered the injury while attempting to rebound a missed free throw Jan. 26. He needed assistance off the court.

 

4. Dr. Suri is an orthopedic surgeon. He previously served as a team physician for the New Orleans Saints and several academic programs.
