Orthopedic Sports Medicine

Kevin Mullaney, MD, performed microdiscectomy surgery on Minnesota Wild lift wing Zach Parise, according to 1500ESPN.

Here are four takeaways:

1. Dr. Mullaney performed the surgery at TRIA Orthopaedic Center in Bloomington, Minn.

2. Mr. Parise was diagnosed with a herniated disc in January 2016. It wasn't until April 2017 that the left wing reported experiencing tingling in his legs, foot numbness and back pain that was impossible to play through.

3. Dr. Mullaney expects Mr. Parise to return in eight to 10 weeks. Last year during this time, Mr. Parise opted out of surgery and attempted to rehab the injury during the offseason.

4. Dr. Mullaney underwent fellowship training at Twin Cities Spine Center in Minneapolis, Minn. He specializes in minimally invasive techniques and trauma spine surgery.
