Wuhan neurosurgeon, hospital director dies from coronavirus, death toll rises to 1,800+

Dr. Liu Zhiming, a neurosurgeon and director of Wuhan Wuchang Hospital in China, died Feb. 18 from the coronavirus, Bloomberg reports.

According to China’s National Health Commission, more than 1,700 medical workers contracted COVID-19 — the illness caused by the novel coronavirus — and at least six have died. 

China dispatched more than 25,000 medical workers to Wuhan, the epicenter of the outbreak, and the wider province of Hubei to contain the coronavirus. 

More than 73,000 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in China, with the death toll rising to over 1,800 people.
