1. The top five medical centers that house residency programs with highest research productivity were:

 

•    UC San Francisco
•    UC Los Angeles  
•    University of Pittsburgh
•    Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston
•    Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore

 

2. The five-year review examined 103 neurosurgery residency programs across the nation.

 

3. The review is one of the first to use bibliometrics — statistical analysis of written publications — to calculate the objective impact of a particular academic paper.

 

4. It is similar to sabermetrics, that is, the statistical analysis of baseball players’ performance.
