Here are five things to know about the study:
1. There are 27 sites included and 300 patients enrolled in the study.
2. The patients either receive Vertos’ MILD procedure or epidural steroid injections.
3. The study has Coverage with Evidence Development status by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, granted January of last year.
4. MILD is designed for patients with lumbar spinal stenosis that result in nerve root compression.
5. The procedure removes small portions of lamina and hypertrophic ligamentum flavum in the outpatient procedure.
“We are looking forward to seeing whether the data from this study will confirm the findings from published articles and clinical experience that concluded that MILD was a reasonable and medically necessary treatment for lumbar spinal stenosis,” said Principal Investigator and President of the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians Ramsin Benyamin, MD.
To date, there are more than 20,000 patients who have undergone MID procedures.
