Xiaofei (Sophie) Zhou, MD, brought endoscopic spine surgery to the hospital after completing a training course. Dr. Zhou used Arthrex technology to complete the hospital’s first endoscopic discectomy in January.

Endoscopic spine surgery allows surgeons to operate through one small incision, has little to no blood loss and can lead to faster recoveries.

“This type of surgery is the future. Adopting this at UH and training our residents in it sets them up for success in their own careers,” Dr. Zhou said in the release.

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
