Chapel Hill, N.C.-based UNC School of Medicine has named Daniel Prevedello, MD, chair of its department of neurosurgery. He will begin the role in October.
Dr. Prevedello joins UNC from The Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, where he serves as professor and vice chair of academic affairs in the department of neurological surgery. He also holds academic appointments in the departments of neurological surgery and otolaryngology–head and neck surgery, according to a July 16 news release.
In his new role, Dr. Prevedello will also serve as a co-leader of the neurosciences service line. He succeeds Matt Ewend, MD, who has served as interim department chair since May while continuing as chief clinical officer of UNC Health and president of UNC Physicians.
Dr. Prevedello is president-elect of the North American Skull Base Society. He is editor-in-chief of Neurosurgery Review, associate editor of the Journal of Neurosurgery and holds editorial roles with Operative Neurosurgery and World Neurosurgery.
