UChicago Medicine has added four neurosurgeons to expand its clinical and research capabilities.

The health system hired Youssef Comair, MD, as section chief of neuro-oncology; Timothy Witham, MD, as section chief of spine surgery; P.B. Raksin, MD, a specialist in neurotrauma and neurocritical care; and Ryan Naylor, MD, PhD, a vascular and endovascular neurosurgeon, according to a July 8 news release.

Dr. Comair most recently held faculty appointments at Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins University, Houston-based Baylor College of Medicine, University of California, Los Angeles, Cleveland Clinic and the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. Dr. Witham joined from Johns Hopkins University, where he served as professor of neurological surgery and director of the Spinal Fusion Laboratory. Dr. Raksin previously was associate professor of neurosurgery at Chicago-based Rush University Medical Center, and Dr. Naylor joined from Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic.

The hires are part of UChicago Medicine’s continued investment in its Department of Neurological Surgery. Since Mohamad Bydon, MD, became department chair in 2025, the department has added eight faculty members, increasing its total to 18. Recent additions also include a robotic spine program and an intraoperative MRI to support brain tumor and epilepsy surgeries.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
