Here are five things to know:

1. The patient, Cathy Beil, filed the suit after she sustained complications with spine surgery performed by Dr. Durrani, who fled the country in 2013 after the charges were brought against him. Ms. Beil accused the hospital and health system of negligence because they allowed Dr. Durrani privileges; both deny any wrongdoing.

2. According to the report, Ms. Beil entered into a confidential settlement with West Chester Hospital and UC Health shortly after a jury awarded her $350,000 in her case against Dr. Durrani. She also received undisclosed punitive damages.

3. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.

4. Dr. Durrani, West Chester Hospital and UC Health face additional lawsuits in the coming months; six other cases alleging medical malpractice against Dr. Durrani are scheduled for August as part of a civil suit.
