The researchers developed the TL injury classification system by using a structured international consensus process. The system includes:
• A morphologic classification of the fracture;
• A grading system for the neurological status;
• A description of relevant patient-specific modifiers.
The researchers used the classification system in 40 cases with a broad range of injuries twice by group members, one month apart. Reliability was tested using the Kappa coefficient.
The researchers could reliably identify the morphologic injury type, which is based on three classifications: compression, tension band disruption and displacement/translation injuries.
