Texas Rangers pitcher has back surgery

Texas Rangers right-hand pitcher Max Scherzer had back surgery, sidelining him until midseason, according to a Dec. 15 MLB report.

Mr. Scherzer had surgery Dec. 14 to treat a herniated disc, the report said. He tried conservative pain management options but the ailments didn’t go away.

It wasn’t reported who operated on the pitcher.
