After 35 years, the multidisciplinary academic spine center has grown to include 22 physicians who practice in 14 offices. The founders also created the Texas Back Institute Research Foundation to improve patient care through education and research. TBI trains orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons through its accredited spine surgery fellowship.

The institute boasts having the first physicians in the U.S. to perform lumbar total disc replacements and two level total disc replacements. Their physicians were also among pioneers in minimally invasive spine surgery techniques and are actively enrolling patients in FDA-regulated studies for surgery or technologies that are only available outside the country currently.
