The Synergy disc was statistically superior to anterior cervical discectomy and fusion after two years, according to a U.S. investigational device exemption study.

Five things to know:

1. The multicenter study enrolled 175 patients with one-level symptomatic cervical degenerative disc disease, according to a Nov. 10 news release.

2. Researchers found the Syngergy disc saw improvements in neck pain, arm pain, and Neck Disability Index scores at 24 months compared to ACDF.

3. The Syngergy disc hasa 6-degree lordotic core for alignment restoration and multiplane stability.

4. Todd Lanman, MD, presented the data at the DOCS Health 7th Annual Spine Arthroplasty Summit in Beverly Hills, Calif. Synergy Spine Solutions expects potential FDA approval for the disc in the first half of 2026.

5. “Traditional disc replacements aim to preserve spinal movement,” Dr. Lanman said in a news release. “Synergy was engineered to restore motion and alignment, reflecting a more physiological approach to cervical spine function. These early results suggest the potential for meaningful advances in treating degenerative cervical disc disease and reducing the need for fusion.”

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
