However, using the technique for patients with osteoporosis could lead to increased risk of postoperative vertebral body fracture. Researchers gathered information from medical records for 13 patients who underwent LTIF.
The average blood loss was 225 mL and operative time was 261 minutes. The average hospital stay was 4.6 days and all patients available at the one year follow-up showed solid fusion. There were two patients who had postoperative non-displaced vertebral fractures through the anterior fixation and three who had transient postoperative hip flexion weakness.
