Study Identifies Effective Tools for Examining Lower Back Pain

Physicians can use tests to distinguish lower back pain patients from healthy patients through biomechanical analysis of everyday tasks, according to a report published in Spine.

Researchers examined 16 healthy patients and 39 patients with lower back pain as the completed tasks such as sitting to standing and lifting boxes of different weights from a standing position. The regression model used two variables and classified 97.3 percent of the patients correctly. The results of the regression equation correlated with the Oswestry Disability Index scale.
