The study examined 40 patients with lumbar spinal stenosis who were scheduled to undergo surgery and 40 patients with advanced knee osteoarthritis in both knees who were scheduled to undergo total knee arthroplasty on both knees.
Patients with lumbar spinal stenosis spent significantly more time performing the six-meter-walk test and the sit-to-stand test. Patients in the knee osteoarthritis group had statistically worse performances in functional ability than patients with lumbar spinal stenosis. There was no difference between the two groups in the timed up and go test.
