Researchers examined the percutaneous pedicle screw placement in cadaveric spines from L2-S1 bilaterally using cannulated pedicle screw placement systems. Two fluoroscopes were used in the anteroposterior and lateral planes. The total fluoroscope time for placement of 10 percutaneous pedicle screws was four minutes and 56 seconds.
The protected dosimeter recorded less than the reportable dose at 103 mREM, or 10.3 mREM per screw placed. Exposure to the eyes was 2.3 mREM per screw, and all screws were placed within the bone confines with acceptable trajectory.
