Study: Enneking Stage 3 Can Cause Significant Pain Improvement

A complete wide resection of aggressive Enneking stage 3 lesions may be a safe procedure and yield significant improvement in pain and neurological status, according to a study in Spine.

Researchers studied 10 consecutive cases of patients with Enneking stage 3 hemagiomas with a 2.4-year follow-up. Three of the 10 cases were recurrences after prior partial resection and reconstruction or cement augmentation. All patients underwent preoperative embolization.

The average blood loss was 2.1 liters. The average preoperative back pain was 7.2 on the visual analog scale, which decreased to 3.1 at six months after surgery.
