Researchers examined patients who either underwent single or two-level ACDF or posterior lumbar decompression surgery. The ACDF patients had higher incidences of GERD at two, six and 12 weeks, with the biggest difference being at the two week time period.
ACDF patients also required higher doses of antacid medication during the postoperative period. Operation time and number of levels fused did not correlate with GERD Impact Scale scores at any time.
