Studies Spotlight Advantages of New Computer-Guided Spine Surgery Method

 

Spine surgeons at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles have highlighted the advantages of a new method of computer-guided spine surgery for spinal reconstruction in a series of articles published in Neurosurgical Focus.

The researchers analyzed a three-dimensional technique that uses high-speed computerized tomography imaging to navigate in and around the spinal column. They published their findings in six articles published in the peer-reviewed journal.

 

1. It allows surgeons to more precisely and accurately place reconstruction screws in the spine.
2. It helps reduce or avoid complications, postoperative pain and the need for follow-up surgeries.
3. It has other applications for treating spinal disorders, such as a tool to remove tumors, decompress the spinal column and perform minimally invasive surgery.
