Four notes:
1. In 2017, Dr. McCartney operated on then 15-year-old Carlos Polanco at the Optim Surgery Center in Savannah.
2. Dr. McCartney then performed the same surgery on Carlos’ younger sister, Mia, in November 2018 at Optim Surgery Center.
3. Dr. McCartney first met Carlos, Mia and their mother in Guatemala during a trip with medical mission group Faith in Practice. Dr. McCartney began volunteering with the group a decade ago.
4. In addition to scoliosis, Dr. McCartney specializes in pediatric deformities of the spine and skeleton including coccydynia, spondylosis and sciatica.
