Spine surgeon helps develop implant to relieve spinal compression

Stephen Smith, MD, and Ryan Roeder, PhD, collaborated to create a newly FDA approved spine implant, NBC affiliate WNDU reported Oct. 12.

Dr. Smith, a spine surgeon with South Bend, Ind.-based Beacon Medical Group, and Dr. Roeder, founder of HAPPE Spine, developed an implant to relieve spinal compression.

Dr. Smith completed four cases with the device so far.
