Here are four observations:

1. More than 47,000 people follow the spine surgeon’s Instagram account.

2. Dr. Smith posts oddly photoshopped photos of his staff and objects that often don’t have much to do with spine surgery.

3. His photo captions often include medical terms, like “minimally invasive spine surgery,” although the photos don’t capture the essence of the captions.

4. Dr. Smith completed his spine fellowships at The County of Los Angeles, Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center in Downey, Calif., and Southwestern Orthopedic Medical Center in Ventura, Calif.
