Spine specialist Dr. Kevin Cairns joins Florida Board of Medicine

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) appointed Kevin Cairns, MD, to the Florida Board of Medicine, according to Florida Politics.

Four things to know:

1. Dr. Cairns will oversee the licensure and professional standards of physicians in Florida.

2. He is owner and attending physician at Florida Spine Specialists in Fort Lauderdale.

3. Dr. Cairns completed a fellowship in neurology at Harvard Medical School in Boston and one in interventional spine physiatry at Georgia Pain Physicians/Emory University in Atlanta.

4. Ophthalmologist Shailesh Gupta, MD, was also appointed to the board. They will serve a four-year term pending a vote of confirmation in the Florida Senate.
