Jared Ament, MD, of Santa Monica-based Neurosurgery & Spine Group has pioneered two new approaches to spine surgery in the last year.
He was involved with the world’s first clinical case combining Premia Spine’s Tops and Centinel Spine Prodisc-L implants and the first known case combining the Motus total joint replacement implant and the Tops system at adjacent levels.
He spoke with Becker’s in February about why he values new innovations and pushing past a fusion mindset.
“It’s so easy to like the status quo,” he said. “It’s so easy to say, ‘OK, we have fusion technology. We have expandable technology. Let’s look at the next biologic to make the fusion better. But I think that that’s the wrong approach. I think the right approach is really reinventing the wheel and asking, ‘Why are we looking at solving this problem with such archaic ideologies?’ We need to think outside of the box and think how to do better.”
Dr. Ament earned his medical degree at the Medical School for International Health in Israel and completed his residency at the University of California, Davis.
Dr. Ament is speaking at Becker’s 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, set for June 11-13 at the Swissotel Chicago.
