Spine speaker spotlight: Dr. Andrew Fanous

Andrew Fanous, MD, section chief of neurosurgery at Inova Alexandria Hospital and the medical director of spine at Inova Eastern Region.

His special interests are in minimally invasive spine surgery and spine and brain tumors.

He is from Alexandria, Egypt, and he earned his medical degree from the University of Vermont College of Medicine in Burlington. Dr. Fanous completed his residency at at the State University of New York at Buffalo where he earned multiple awards including best research project from the New York State Neurosurgical Society, the community service award from the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Louis A. and Ruth Siegel Award for Excellence in Teaching and the graduate medical education quality improvement award. Dr. Fanous completed his fellowship in minimally invasive and complex spine surgery at the University of Miami.

Dr. Fanous received multiple accolades including the Distinguished Physician Leadership Award, the Community Engagement & Mentorship Award and the Best Resident Teacher Faculty Award. He is also the founder and director of Inova’s Annual Spine Symposium. He is the first editor of the medical textbook “Spine and Spinal Cord Tumors – Classification, Management and Treatment.” Dr. Fanous has been recognized for his work within the health system and as a Top Doctor from many local and national outlets.

Dr. Fanous is speaking at Becker’s 22nd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, set for June 18-21 at the Swissotel Chicago.
