Adam Bruggeman, MD, is a spine surgeon at Texas Spine Care in San Antonio.
Before earning his medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Dr. Bruggeman received a master’s degree in hospital administration at Trinity University in San Antonio. He completed his residency at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
Dr. Bruggeman’s practice includes disc replacement, microdiscectomy, anterior cervical discectomy and fusion and sacroiliac joint fusion.
Beyond the operating room, Dr. Bruggeman is an active physician advocate and has spoken to Congress on topics from payment reform to hospital legislation.
“As the saying goes, you are either at the table or you are on the table,” he told Becker’s. “Many physicians decide to remain out of the political process given the hyperpolarized nature of our country currently. I would argue that this isn’t about politics, but instead about advocating for our patients and our profession. You can advocate without being political. Our healthcare system is currently in significant flux and physician leaders can help guide politicians and regulatory agencies as to the best pathways forward. If we sit in silence, others, including insurers, hospital systems and large corporations, will decide the future of medicine.”
Dr. Bruggeman is speaking at Becker’s 22nd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, set for June 18-21 at the Swissotel Chicago.
