Here are five things to know about Spine & Neuro Center:

1. The center was opened in 1963 and provides comprehensive neurosurgical care. It was established by Frank Haws, MD, and according to the AL.com report, before he came to Huntsville, neurosurgery patients had to go to Birmingham, Nashville, Chattanooga or Memphis to find care.

2. The center includes six board-certified spine and neurosurgeons as well as three physical medicine physicians. The surgeons offer minimally invasive treatments as well as trauma and complex spine services. The center also offers non-surgical services, such as physical medicine, injections, spine therapy, decompression and rehabilitation.

3. Spine & Neuro Center performs a wide array of services, neck pain, back pain, cervical and lumbar herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, spine fractures, spinal stenosis, bone spurs, sciatica, spondylolisthesis, brain and spinal cord tumors and carpel tunnel syndrome. It also offers epidural injection, radiofrequency ablation and trigger point injections, as part of its non-surgical treatments. In addition the center provides complete workers’ compensation and industrial rehabilitation services.

4. The center includes on-site diagnostic and digital X-ray services. Patients can register online through a patient portal and are given access to a patient satisfaction survey on the center’s website. The website also includes patient education tools and resources.

5. The center celebrated reaching the 50-year mark with a reception, May 15, which included Dr. Frank Haws, Congressman Mo Brooks and former patients. “It’s hard work and late nights, but I see that as my job as a neurosurgeon,” Joel Pickett, MD, told Al.com. “This is my community, and these are my neighbors. I want to take care of them if I can.”
