Spine groups call for action on proposed Medicare pay reform bill

The American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons commended members of the U.S. House of Representatives for introducing a bill aimed at halting CMS pay cuts for physicians in 2025.

The Medicare Patient Access and Practice Stabilization Act of 2025 would go into effect April 1 and run through Dec. 31 if passed, according to a Jan. 31 news release shared with Becker’s. The legislation also gives physicians an extra 2% pay increase.

U.S. Reps. Greg Murphy, MD, R-N.C.; Jimmy Panetta, D-Calif.; Mariannette Miller-Meeks, MD, R-Iowa;, Kim Schrier, MD, D-Wash.; John Joyce, MD, R-Pa.; Raul Ruiz, MD, D-Calif.; Carol Miller, R-W.Va.; Ami Bera, MD, D-Calif.; Claudia Tenney, R-N.Y.; and Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill., led the efforts for the proposed bill.

The AANS and CNS have supported similar proposed bills in the past.
