South Nassau Communities Hospital Spine Surgeon Now Using New Bone Augmentation Material

Cortoss is the first FDA-approved alternative to polymethylmethacrylyate cement, which is traditionally used during vertebroplasty and kyphoplasty between the prosthesis and the patient’s bone. Cortoss was designed to match the properties of natural bone and set quickly to create a load bearing implant more in line with the mechanical properties of the cortical bone.

Dr. Shapiro also uses X STOP, a minimally invasive surgery to implant a device to alleviate pain associated with spinal stenosis.
