Benefits included fewer complications, less blood loss and reduced length of stay, NuVasive said in a Jan. 5 news release.
The study evaluated 390 patients who had anterior lumbar interbody fusion and/or lateral lumbar interbody fusion with bilateral percutaneous pedicle screw fixation between L2-S1. The single-position technique was used on 237 patients and a “flip” approach was used on 153 patients.
Single-position lateral surgery reduced operating time by more than three hours and decreased average hospital stay by two days, according to the study.
