Dr. Mazda Farshad, chief of spine surgery at the hospital, performed the landmark procedure with the device. His team is exploring how the augmented and mixed reality technology can help surgeons perform complex procedures.
“AR enhances the surgeon’s senses and improves their perception,” Dr. Farshad told TweakTown.
HoloLens 2 uses CT data to create 3D models of the patient’s anatomy and guide the surgeon through the procedure.
The researchers will continue to evaluate HoloLens 2 in a series of randomized trials.
