Rehabilitation gym focused on spinal cord injuries opens in Berkeley: 5 notes

Here are five notes:

1. The program is designed for people suffering from spinal cord injuries or neurological disorders to remain active and regain movements.

2. Dan Dumas co-founded SCI-FIT in 2007 at a location in Pleasanton, after he suffered a spinal cord injury that initially left him paralyzed from the neck down.

3. Mr. Dumas trained with Jerry Rainey, a rehabilitation specialist, who eventually created the SCI-FIT program.

4. The program involves load-bearing activities, gait training, functional exercises and mind-body connection.

5. Each person undergoes an individualized program, tailored to the specific injury.
