Dr. McMains and OrthoIndy are part of the Oasis clinical trial, which is evaluating OsteoAdapt SP in transforaminal interbody fusions and ALIF surgeries, according to a Feb. 4 news release shared with Becker’s. In November, Dr. McMains and David Schwartz, MD, did the first TLIF cases with the implant for the clinical trial.
There’s increased demand for high-performing synthetic bone grafts in ALIF cases since bone isn’t recovered from patients, whereas the TLIF approach uses recovered bone to support healing, the release said.
“Conducting a clinical trial with ALIF allows us to address the unique demands of this approach and help a broader range of patients,” Theradaptive CEO Luis Alvarez, PhD, said in the release.
OsteoAdapt is an investigational therapeutic for patients with degenerative disc disease.
