Salem (Ohio) Regional Medical Center offers spinal cord stimulation for chronic pain through Ryan Sankovic, MD, the first physician to bring the therapy to the region.

Dr. Sankovic specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation and pain medicine. He also provides minimally invasive therapy for patients with chronic back, leg and nerve pain who have not found relief through medication, therapy or surgery, according to a Feb. 20 system news release.

The therapy involves implanting a device that sends mild electrical impulses to disrupt pain signals before they reach the brain. Patients undergo a three- to seven-day trial before permanent implantation.

The system is FDA approved and manufactured by Boston Scientific.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
