Lima (Ohio) Memorial Health System is the first provider in northwest Ohio to offer Prodisc total disc replacement, an alternative procedure to traditional spinal fusion.
The procedure is performed by Jeffrey Lobel, MD, a neurosurgeon and medical director of neurosurgery at Lima Memorial, according to a July 1 news release from the health system.
Prodisc total disc replacement involves removing the damaged disc and replacing it with an artificial disc, relieving pain while preserving spine flexibility and motion.
Dr. Lobel uses Prodisc implants from Centinel Spine, which allows him to find the best-fitting implant for each patient compared to a one-size-fits-all version.
The Prodisc procedure has been performed more than 275,000 times globally and has been researched in more than 540 peer-reviewed papers, the release said.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
