Investigators assessed NIH grant winner data from 2011 to 2013. The data was compared with 15 randomly selected, non-funded departments for comparison. Scholarly expertise was measured using the h-index, as calculated from the Scopus database.
The study found that NIH-funded faculty had a higher h-index that unfunded faculty.
