Students who apply to the Jeffrey D. Gross Scholarship and answer an essay question may be awarded $2,500 toward their education, the release said.

Dr. Gross is a spine fellowship-trained neurosurgeon working in Newport Beach, Calif., and Henderson, Nev., the release said. He said the scholarship is one way he’s paying it forward.

“This is something I feel very passionate about,” Dr. Gross said in the release. “I know first-hand how important education is for a person’s future. We’ve seen the kind of challenges the last year has presented, so I am happy to do my part to help others grow and achieve their dreams. I’d love to see the scholarship expand in the years to come.”
