Preston Parsons, founder of Assure Holdings and its subsidiary Assure Neuromonitoring; California businessman James Mathew McAlpin and Dr. Kimball were all named in a civil lawsuit, according to a news release.
The group’s settlement resolves allegations that Assure paid kickbacks to surgeons through joint ventures inducing orders for intraoperative neuromonitoring services. Payments allegedly went to Dr. Kimball through a “complex web of transfers.” He and Mr. McAlpin allegedly formed a company that went into a joint venture with Assure’s founder.
Mr. Parsons will pay $225,000; Dr. Kimball will pay $650,000, and Assure Holdings will pay $1 million. Mr. McAlpin already paid $125,000.
