Phoenix-based Barrow Neurological Institute CEO Michael Lawton told Bloomberg a replacement candidate is expected to have surgery in July. Earlier in 2024 Neuralink’s brain-implant device, designed to assist spinal cord injury patients, was successfully implanted in a man with paralysis.

The patient whose surgery was canceled has amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Neuralink didn’t respond to Bloomberg’s request for comment.
