The North American Spine Society awarded $196,313 in research funding for its 2026 cycle, the most funding the organization has awarded annually in over a decade.

The funding comprises six research grants and three traveling fellowships, according to an Oct. 6 NASS Insider report.

Since 1989, NASS has funded more than $5.5 million in grants and traveling fellowships for spine-related research.

The recipients were selected by the NASS Research Funding Committee and Evidence Analysis & Research Council and approved by the NASS Executive Committee. The winners will be announced Oct. 15 during an award ceremony at the 2026 Annual Meeting in San Antonio.

Past grants have backed projects such as a randomized trial comparing postoperative acetaminophen with ketorolac in lumbar spinal fusion and research on radiation therapy for spinal metastases from lung cancer.

NASS said 100% of Annual Research Fund contributions go directly toward research funding.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
