Montefiore’s Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery Terry D. Amaral, MD, presented findings from a five year study conducted at the hospital called “Burying One’s Head in the Sand: Are We Underestimating the Significance of Pedicle Screw Misplacement?” Dr. Amaral presented the paper at the 2012 Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America annual conference.
Using pedicle screw scoliosis surgery, orthopedic surgeons at Montefiore report showing a more than 90 percent accuracy rate in placing pedicle screws and a nearly 100 percent success rate in correcting scoliosis in pediatric patients.
